Perkins graduate Amy Schlessman, a Kenyon College junior, represented the Ladies tennis team at the NCAA Division III individual championship. Schlessman was one of 32 players from throughout the country selected to participate in the singles tournament, and she advanced to the Sweet 16 before being knocked out. 

 

Playing at Cary Tennis Park, Schlessman handled Amy Friesenhahn from the University of Texas-Tyler in the opening round. Schlessman breezed through the first set, 6-0, and won the second set by a solid, 6-2, margin.

The win sent Schlessman on to the round of 16, where she squared off against Emory University's Gabrielle Clark, the No. 1-ranked player in the Atlantic South region. Schlessman tried to keep pace but ultimately fell by a 6-1, 6-1 final.

For Schlessman, it was her first appearance in the national singles bracket. She became the first Lady to win a match in the championship, and therefore qualify for All-America status, since Ashley Kriwinsky in 2006. She had a berth in the doubles championship under her belt, which came with Prita Kidder during the 2010 season, and also resulted in an All-America nod.

Schlessman concludes the campaign with a 14-10 record in singles play and owns a 48-25 mark for her career.

Perkins graduate Amy Schlessman, from Kenyon College, was selected by the NCAA Women's Tennis Committee, along with 31 other players throughout the nation, to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Singles Championship Tournament.

Although the singles tournament will be new to Schlessman, she did make the 2010 NCAA doubles field, won her first match, and earned All-America status along with teammate Prita Kidder.

Schlessman, the Ladies' No. 1 singles player for the last two seasons, has a 13-9 record this year and a 47-24 record for her career. 

According to the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, she is ranked as the No. 8 singles player in the Central Region.

The singles championships will be held May 24-26 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. The selection of individuals for the championship was based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. While the field is set, the draw for the championship bracket will be completed by the NCAA Women's Tennis Committee one day before the tournament begins.

Schlessman, who played mainly at No. 2 singles for the Ladies, racked up a season record of 18-7. The first-team honor was her second, one year after earning the same position and being named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year.

Prita Kidder joined Schlessman as Kenyon’s No. 1 doubles pairing after posting a 19-6 record and achieving an Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional ranking as high as No. 6.

Perkins graduate Amy Schlessman, whose in her sophomore year at Kenyon, made it through her singles and doubles matches unblemished on Monday. Schlessman didn’t drop a game against Wooster and the tennis team followed suit in a 9-0 rout of their North Coast Athletic Conference rival.

Schlessman and Prita Kidder hung Wooster’s first goose egg on the scoreboard in the top flight.

To earn her fourth-straight triumph at No. 2 singles, Schlessman won in straight sets by identical 6-0 margins. Her two blankings were among five 6-0 set victories the Ladies posted in singles competition.

Perkins’ Amy Schlessman and her partner Prita Kidder each made lengthy runs through the singles and doubles brackets while playing in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Central Regional.

The longest of those runs came in the doubles bracket, where Schlessman and Kidder, an All-American tandem, took a bye through the first round and went on to defeat their next three opponents. That got them a spot in the semifinal, but once there the Kenyon duo was eliminated by the eventual champions, Kendra Higgins and Chrissy Hu from the University of Chicago. Kidder’s and Schlessman’s spot in the semifinal round made them the first Kenyon pairing to play that deep into the regional tournament since 2002.

In singles play, Schlessman forged into the fourth round of the singles bracket before being eliminated by the No. 2-seeded Janelle Arita from DePauw. For the tournament, Schlessman was 2-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles.

Perkins’ freshman sensation Amy Schlessman has added to her outstanding first-year season at Kenyon College.

Schlessman, along with doubles teammate Prita Kidder, are on of just 16 doubles teams to participate in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament.

Kidder, a junior, and Schlessman have a 15-3 record together and are currently ranked as the No. 4 doubles team in the Central Region.

The national doubles tournament will be held at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and will commence this Friday (May 28).

Perkins’ Amy Schlessman was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, after winning both her matches at Wooster to lead Kenyon to a 9-0 victory on Monday.

Schlessman earned the conference's weekly award after posting a perfect 6-0 record in three matches last week.

Schlessman moved up a rung from her normal spot at second singles and posted a perfect, 6-0, 6-0 victory in the top flight to run her singles record for the season to 12-7. She also paired with fellow freshman Amanda Polster, of Shaker Heights, for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Polster took over for Schlessman at No. 2 singles and didn't miss a beat in picking up a 6-3, 6-2 decision.

Prita Kidder teamed with Schlessman for an 8-1 triumph in the top doubles flight. Schlessman also claimed victory in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 doubles.

Perkins’ Amy Schlessman is off to a solid start in just her freshman season playing tennis at Kenyon College.

Schlessman teamed up with junior Prita Kidder to win a No. 1 doubles match, 8-3 over Walsh’s Shellie Webster and Barbara Lewis.

Schlessman then won at No. 2 singles, defeating Lewis, 6-1, 6-1.

Schlessman is 4-3 in singles play and a combined 2-6 in doubles action.

Perkins' Amy Schlessman made it to the third round of the NCAA ITA Tennis Tournament this past weekend at DePauw University, while playing tennis for Kenyon College.

Schlessman, who was the 17th seed, had a first round bye and then defeated Denison's Maggie Colvin, 6-4, 6-0 in the second round.

She then lost a grueling three-set match to Calvin College's Melissa Oosterhaus, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6. The match took over three hours to play.
