Bower hits ninth home run of the season to lead Mercyhurst in a doubleheader sweep
Elyria’s Jen Bower hit two home runs, helping the Mercyhurst College softball team to a two-game sweep at Lake Erie College on Tuesday. The Lakers downed the Storm 9-5 in the opener before taking the second game, 12-4.
Bower connected for three hits during the first game, belting two home runs and a double, driving in four runs.
The Lakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first, as Bower hit a two-run homer.
With the two wins, Mercyhurst improves its record to 13-11.
Bower was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Player of the Week early in March.
Bower, a sophomore, is tied for the team lead with nine home runs and second with 26 RBIs. She is also second in batting with a .339 batting average.
Elyria's Kristen Fyffe is in her freshman year. She is batting .294 in 15 games played (eight starts). She has a double, triple and two RBIs on the season.
