Baldwin-Wallace defeats Ohio Northern, moves into first place in the OAC


St. Mary graduate Catherine Spisak scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds as Baldwin-Wallace defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University, 56-54 on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center. The victory moved B-W into first place in the OAC.

With its win, B-W is now 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the OAC. Ohio Northern dipped to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the OAC.

Spisak scored on a short jump shot to give the Yellow Jackets an early lead. The Yellow Jackets rebuilt its lead to nine points at 25-16 at the 2:33 mark when Spisak made a pair of free throws.

The lead grew to 12 points at 38-26 at the 12:50 mark when Firelands graduate Ali Stack made a layup.

Spisak helps lead B-W to fourth straight win

St. Mary’s Catherine Spisak scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help Baldwin-Wallace win its fourth straight game with a 70-57 win over Wilmington College on Saturday.

B-W improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Marietta to play Marietta College in an OAC game at 7:30 p.m.

Pair of St. Mary graduates square off in OAC opener

St. Mary graduates Catherine Spisak and Kathleen Phillips faced off at the college level as Spisak’s Baldwin-Wallace team took on Phillips’ Heidelberg squad on Wednesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference opener.

Spisak’s team won 67-50, while both girls played outstanding. Spisak scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win, while Phillips added six points and four rebounds in the loss.

Phillips is having a good start as a freshman playing for the ‘Berg. She is second on the team, averaging 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Spisak hits clutch shot to lead Yellow Jackets to OAC quarterfinal win

St. Mary’s Catherine Spisak hit a clutch free throw that put Baldwin-Wallace ahead 66-65 with 16 seconds remaining and the Baldwin-Wallace women’s team rallied to defeat cross-town rival and sixth-seeded John Carroll, 68-65 in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (18-8) advance to the OAC final four on Friday in Columbus.
B-W has beaten JCU six-straight times and in 36 of the last 37 meetings to lead the all-time series, 41-19. With its loss, JCU ends its season at 11-14 and on a four-game losing streak.

B-W is back in action on Friday when it plays second-seeded Mount Union College, a 59-56 winner against Otterbein College, in one semifinal game at host and top-seeded Capital University in the Capital Center in Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Capital hosts Ohio Northern University in the other semifinal match. The 2010 OAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game will be played on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Spisak helps lead Yellow Jackets to seventh-straight win



St. Mary's Catherine Spisak scored 10 points and Firelands' Ali Stack totaled career-highs with nine points and four assists to help lead the Baldwin-Wallace women's basketball team over Otterbein College, 75-53 in Ohio Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in the Ursprung Gymnasium. The win is its season-high seventh-straight win and sixth straight over the Cardinals.

The Yellow Jackets are now 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the OAC while Otterbein fell to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
