Heidersbach entering sophomore swimming season at OSU

Elyria Catholic’s Evann Heidersbach is entering her sophomore season on the prestige swim team at Ohio State after a successful freshman season.

OSU’s first meet is Oct. 22 in the Scarlet and Gray annual swimming event on the campus at 5 p.m. The very next day, they’ll hold the Alumni Meet at 9 a.m. before starting a competitive schedule Oct. 30 against Kenyon.

At EC, Heidersbach was the highest point scorer, North Coast League Most Valuable Player, 12-time All-Ohio district record holder, sectional record holder, MVP, YMCA short course national finalist, two-time All-American, zone champion and team captain. She was also named Women of Compassion Rising Star and Athlete of the Year, among other accolades.

Gallagher to swim on at Ohio State


St. Mary’s Michael Gallagher, who won a Division II state championship in the 200-yard individual medley this past season, has chosen to continue his swimming career at Ohio State.

Gallagher earned a gold medal in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:52.77 at this year’s swimming championships.

Heidersbach named All-American


Elyria Catholic’s Evann Heidersbach, who is heading to Ohio State on a swimming scholarship, recently became the EC’s first ever All-American in the sport of swimming.

Heidersbach earned All-American status based on her performance in the Northeast Ohio District Swimming Championships at Cleveland State University this past season. The All-American rankings were recently released. Heidersbach was ranked 78th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.63 and 107th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.41.

“Evann's accomplishment is a great way to cap-off a remarkable high school swimming career,” EC coach Jack Dibee said. “I am very excited for Evann to earn this honor. I know her swimming career is going to continue to excel at Ohio State.”
