Schwab named OAC Men's Track and Field Runner of the Week

Monroeville's Jacob Schwab has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Runner of the Week for his performance last week running track for Ohio Northern.

Schwab led the way for the Polar Bears at the Washington & Lee (Va.)/Virginia Military Institute Carnival in Lexington, Va. by delivering four top-eight performances at the non-scoring event.

The sophomore sprinter teamed up with Joe Amstutz, Ryan Fleming and Evan Heyman for a victory in the 4x100-meter relay. The team finished in 42.02 seconds.
Schwab and Heyman combined with Garrett Brown and Shane Huntley for a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:19.19.

Individually, Schwab ran his way to a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash and an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash. He crossed the finish line in 49.74 seconds during the 400-meter dash and completed the 100-meter dash in 11.20 seconds.

Avon's Smith named OAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week



Avon's Dan Smith was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week this week for the second-straight week.


Smith earned the award for his record-breaking performance at the Northwest Ohio Invitational hosted by Findlay on Friday.

In the 3,000-meter run, Smith came in first place and set a new Ohio Northern record with a time of 8:46.80.


Smith also easily qualified for the OAC Championship meet by running under the OAC A Standard of 9:04.49.

In addition to having Northern's fastest time in the 3,000-meter run this season, Smith also has turned in the fastest Polar Bear time in the mile run at 4:22.53.

Ohio Northern will compete again on Saturday when it travels to Baldwin-Wallace for the OAC Relays.
