Wellington’s Cory Kidd was named a first teamer for OhioCollegeFootball.com for his outstanding punting at Oberlin College this season.

Kidd set the school record for putting average in a season with a mark of 40.6 yards per kick, which was also second best in the North Coast Athletic Conference. He also had the best single-game performance in Yeomen history with a 48.8 average against Wooster. Kidd had a league-high 19 punts inside the 20 and also tied for an NCAC-best nine punts over 50-yards — including a league-long 73-yarder in the season finale against Allegheny.

An All-NCAC Second-Team selection, Kidd was also a valuable option at wide receiver for the Yeomen. He caught 25 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown.

Kidd set the school record for putting average in a season with a mark of 40.6 yards per kick, which was also second best in the NCAC. He also had the best single-game performance in Yeomen history with a 48.8 average against Wooster. Kidd had a league-high 19 punts inside the 20 and also tied for an NCAC-best nine punts over 50-yards — including a league-long 73-yarder in the season finale against Allegheny.

Last season, he played dual roles in all 10 games as one of the team’s key wideouts as well as the starting punter. At wideout, he caught 11 passes for 75 yards, including a game-best four catches for 26 yards at Earlham College. While punting, he upped his average from 35.6 yards per punt in 2008 to 36.7 yards per punt in 2009, punting the ball 57 times, with six of those punts traveling 50 yards or more, including a career long punt of 61 yards against Kenyon College (10/17/09).

As a freshman, he played in all 10 games as the team’s starting punter. He punted 44 times for a total of 1,567 yards (35.6 yards per punt). He ended the year with two punts totaling over 50 yards.

Oberlin High School and Oberlin College graduate Chris Schubert just completed an outstanding season for the Richmond Raiders of the American Indoor Football League (AIFL).

Schubert, who holds multiple Oberlin College records, was the top receiver for the Raiders this season. He led the team in nearly every statistical category including receptions (73), yards (805) and touchdowns (21).

He started all 14 games, averaging 57.5 yards per game and 5.21 receptions per game. He accounted for 132 total points on the season. Richmond missed the AIFL playoffs – finishing 6-8 on the year.

“I had a great experience down in Richmond from the ownership to the coaching staff, everyone was great to work with,” Schubert said through a press release. “I met a lot of good people while playing a high level of football. Hopefully things will work out so I can return to the team next season.”

This offseason, Schubert is continuing to workout while exploring options in the Canadian Football League as well as the possibility of returning to the Raiders in 2011.
