Trzeciak, Yellow Jackets win second straight shutout

Avon Lake’s Alex Trzeciak and his teammate Brad Minrovic won, 8-1, to improve to 17-4 this season and Baldwin-Wallace won its second straight shutout in a win over Wilmington College, 9-0 on Friday at the Harpers Point Racquet Club. The victory left the Yellow Jackets one shy of 20 this season and was their 13th shutout.


Trzeciak also won at No.1 singles by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 19-5 this season.


B-W dominated this match by winning 96 of 110 total games, including 72 of 77 singles and 24 of 29 doubles games. With its win, B-W improved to 19-3 overall and 5-2 in the OAC. One more victory would give B-W 20 wins for the sixth time in the last nine years and improve its mark during the last nine seasons to an amazing 180-28 overall.

Trzeciak makes Academic All-OAC At-Large Team in tennis


Avon Lake’s Alex Trzeciak made the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference At-Large Team in tennis at Baldwin-Wallace.

This is the second time Trzeciak has earned the award. Trzeciak is a mathematical economics major with a 3.72 GPA.

He also earned his second straight All-OAC First Team selection for his play on the court in 2009-10. He posted a 17-8 record while competing strictly at the No. 1 singles position. Trzeciak was 8-1 during OAC competition and was a part of B-W’s No. 2 doubles duo that posted a 17-6 record.

In two seasons, Trzeciak is 39-11 overall in singles play and 37-12 in doubles.

Trzeciak nabs first-team selection for B-W

Avon Lake’s Alex Trzeciak, a sophomore, notched an All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection for his outstanding season playing tennis at Baldwin-Wallace.

Trzeciak, who was a second-team All-OAC selection last season, has a 17-8 record while competing strictly at the No. 1 singles position. Trzeciak was 8-1 during OAC competition and was a part of B-W’s No. 2 doubles duo that had a 17-6 record. In two seasons, Trzeciak is 39-11 overall in singles play and 37-12 in doubles.

Around the Campus


AROUND THE CAMPUS
  • Avon’s Steve Isaac finished a solid freshman season at Otterbein College. He appeared in 24 games, starting the last 17 and averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. His best game, he scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Marieta.
  • Clearview’s Anthony Weber was named honorable mention in the AMC, playing baseball at Columbia Union in Maryland. He led the team in hits, doubles, runs and RBIs this season.
  • Oberlin’s Zach Gay, a sophomore, qualified for the NCAA Championships after taking first place for Marietta in the high jump (6-07.50) at the OAC Split Meet at B-W.
  • Avon Lake’s Alex Trzeciak, a tennis player at Baldwin-Wallace, was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference second team after a solid freshman season.
  • Elyria Catholic’s Jacqueline Sammon was named to the OAC first team, as a sophomore tennis player at Ohio Northern.
  • Edison’s Kurt Anderson, who golfs at LCCC, finished second overall out of 38 golfers in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Final and was named to All-Conference first team. Anderson is ranked 14th overall nationally in the NJCAA Division III.
  • Keystone’s Matt Niskey finished 15th out of 38 golfers in the OCCAC Final, and is ranked 42nd overall nationally.
