New London’s Corey Chaffins came back from an off-season injury last year, to come back and make 14 appearances, including 11 starts at Eastern Michigan. He finished with a 5-3 record with 69 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings pitched, which earned him Mid-American Conference second team honors.

He earned the MAC Pitcher of the Week in the first week of May after striking out 14 in a 6-5 win over Ball State. He also earned Pitcher of the Week honors in April, after he pitched seven solid innings, allowing just four hits, one run, while striking out five in a 7-1 win over Ohio University.

Two seasons ago, Chaffins had a 2-2 record in 14 appearances, including five starts. He struck out 42 batters in 40 1/3 innings pitched.

At New London, Chaffins was the Firelands Conference Player of the Year, the District 9 Player of the Year and he was named to the All-Ohio First Team.

Eastern Michigan bowed out to Toledo in the MAC Tournament, losing 9-6, and finished the season at 25-35.

Corey's brother Derek Chaffins, a freshman, just finished a fine year pitching for Siena Height University in Michigan.
